Gabrielle Jan Posner (1984)
Specialising in public law children’s cases, dealing with all aspects of care proceedings, placement and adoption, and in private law children’s cases, including child arrangement orders, specific issue and prohibited steps orders, and special guardianship.
Since being called to the Bar in 1984, Gabrielle has become an authority in public law and private law children’s proceedings. With over 30 years’ experience, she regularly represents the interests of parents, grandparents and other family members in complex children’s cases and has a thorough knowledge of all aspects of practice and procedure.
Gabrielle received her LLB from The University of Southampton, before completing her LLM from Indiana University. She is currently a member of the Family Law Bar Association, the Criminal Bar Association and the South Eastern Circuit.

Gabrielle became a Crown Court Recorder in 2009 and has been approved to hear both private law and public law children’s cases. Furthermore, since 2015 she has been the Legally Qualified Chair of Police Misconduct Panels for Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and Thames Valley.
Gabrielle is the author of 29 articles published in Family Law and also The Teenager’s Guide to the Law (Cavendish, 1995).
Gabrielle now writes on matters of practice and procedure for Family Law Week. Her latest articles are Getting the Most Out of Independent Reviewing Officers in Care Proceedings (20 April 2018); The New Cafcass Guidance on the Use of Professional Time (4 July 2017); Child Contact Interventions: An Underused Resource (11 January 2017) and Family Assistance Orders: Could more use be made of them?
